YORKTOWN, Ind. — Everyone else was done running. Matthew Mitsch was not.
The boys and girls Delaware County cross country races were over, and less than half-an-hour earlier, the Yorktown senior won the individual boys title with a time of 16:44.90, more than 1:45 quicker than the next-best runner.
As others were limping around, icing their legs, laying on the ground and trying to rehydrate their bodies on a more than 90-degree September afternoon, Mitsch was running laps on the track.
His mother, Sherry Mitsch, said his post-race cool down on that day was four miles, almost a full mile longer than the 3.
