HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — When Blackford boys basketball played Madison-Grant Friday night, it did so without head coach Jerry Hoover on the bench.
The 85-year-old Hoover began to feel ill the week leading up to Blackford's game against Randolph Southern on Jan. 3. He coached in that game, but then admitted himself to the IU Health Center near in his home town of Monticello on Jan. 6 with pneumonia. On Saturday, Hoover was discharged and is working to get back to doing what he loves to do: coaching basketball.
While it's going to take Hoover a few weeks of physical therapy before he's able to return to the Bruins' sideline on a full-time basis, his son and interim head coach, Don Hoover, said, "He's doing well.
