NEW CASTLE, Ind. — On Saturday, Blue River boys basketball took a ride.
The Vikings had just won their second Class 1A sectional title in three seasons, once again at home over Randolph Southern, this time 63-56. But plenty about the program has changed in two years, so the team did something special.
They hopped in Gene Cross' No. 15 bus, always Blue River's transportation before he died just before this season's start, and they rode through Mooreland and Mount Summit with a police escort. Head coach Brian Klein's players donned warmup shirts that read, "This one's for Geno" all season, and because Cross never missed a game, it was only fitting they honor him for the title celebration.
