MUNCIE, Ind. – Hundreds gathered inside Worthen Arena hours before Ball State’s men’s volleyball match against Ohio State.
They came from everywhere, some flying thousands of miles, to honor a man who helped put this place at the center of the volleyball world. They came to honor former Ball State men’s volleyball coach Don Shondell, who died Nov. 23, 2021.
They came to celebrate a man who is the patriarch of one of the most successful volleyball families in the world. A man who brought prominence to men’s volleyball to not only Muncie, but Indiana and the country.
