MUNCIE, Ind. — It was a routine play, the final out in Ball State softball's 5-0 victory over Western Michigan. A ground ball headed toward junior second baseman Haley Wynn, who tossed it over to sophomore Samantha-Jo Mata at first base.
The amount of time it took for the ball to roll off the bat of Western Michigan's Reily Galloway until it reached Mata's glove was about three seconds. In those three seconds, history was made.
Because, with that final out, freshman pitcher Angelina Russo had completed the first perfect game in Ball State softball history.
