DURHAM, N.C. — Patrick Dougherty has been hired as Duke's special teams coordinator and tight ends coach, Duke Athletics officially announced Tuesday.
Dougherty, who's been on Ball State football's coaching staff for nine of the past 10 seasons, was the Cardinals' longest active tenured coach. The news of his expected hiring was originally broken by ESPN's Adam Rittenberg on Jan. 7. Hours later, Ball State head coach Mike Neu sent out a tweet, which said:
"Congrats to (Patrick Dougherty) and his family on the great opportunity at Duke! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to Ball State and for your future investment in our student athletes!
