MUNCIE, Ind. — In the one month since its last win, the Ball State football team had been reeling. Losing is one thing, but three blowout losses in a row and a limp to the finish line put a damper on a strong start to the season and halted any momentum third-year head coach Mike Neu had built up.
After the bye week, not many outside the locker room gave the Cardinals a chance Tuesday night against Western Michigan, because there wasn’t much there in the last three games to inspire any confidence. Ball State was 10-point underdogs at home to a team it lost to by 52 points last season, 32 points in 2016 and 47 points in 2015.
