NEW CASTLE, Ind. — New Castle had its doubters coming into Friday night's sectional semifinal game against Delta.
The Trojans, who had lost seven of their last eight regular season games, did have the benefits of drawing a bye in the first round of the state tournament and playing on their home floor in front of the largest crowd they had had all season.
Still, New Castle knew there it was a tall task to defeat co-Hoosier Heritage Conference champion Delta, which received top-10 votes in the final regular season Associated Press poll. The Eagles had won this same sectional the past two seasons and were one of the favorites to do it again this year.
