YORKTOWN, Ind. — For the first time this season, a defensive player has been named The Star Press football Player of the Week.
Yorktown's Grant Daugherty ran away with the votes this week after a career-best performance in the Tigers' overtime victory against Delta.
Daugherty, a senior linebacker, finished the game with a career-high 16 tackles (four solo) and a sack in Yorktown's come-from-behind win. After giving up 14 points early, the Tigers' defense held the Eagles' offense to just seven points in about three-and-a-half quarters of play.
This season, Daugherty leads the Tigers in total tackles (37) and is tied for first with nine solo tackles.
