MUNCIE, Ind. - After breaking ground in March 2017, the Dr. Don Shondell Practice Center opened to a massive crowd of family, officials and former players on Saturday at Ball State University.
Well over 100 people attended to the event to get a look inside the facility and recognize a name synonymous with volleyball in the Midwest.
The $6.4 million center, which was funded entirely through the Cardinal Commitment fundraising campaign, is attached to Worthen Arena and will provide practice and meeting space for men's and women's basketball as well as men's and women's volleyball.
The facility was named for Don Shondell, who founded the men's volleyball program at Ball State in 1959 and coached the Cardinals to a 769-280-6 record and 20 conference titles before he retired in 1998.
