MUNCIE — This is the beginning of a process sure to take time. Real time.

First-year offensive line coach Kyle DeVan has an eye on the long-term as he gets to know the players that will work in the trenches for Ball State this year. He's got fifth-year seniors Drake Miller and Steven Bell, who have 34 and 36 games under their belts, respectively.

They're solid. They'll fortify the tackle positions, but they'll bookend a younger core of interior linemen. Senior guard Vinnie Palazeti has played in 16 games, and senior guard Pat Maloney nine. As for the center, in spring practice reps on Friday, that spot was filled by Andrew Poenitsch, a redshirt sophomore.
