MUNCIE, Ind. — After 14 years and three consecutive second-place finishes, Delta girls track and field is on top again.
The hosting Eagles on Tuesday won their first sectional since 2008, scoring 130 points to edge perennial champion Yorktown and a strong Muncie Central group in the 11-school meet.
Sophomore Nicki Southerland was the star, as usual, setting sectional records in the 800m (2:11.98 minutes), 1,600m (4:54.31) and 3,200m (11:42.35) runs while also anchoring the regional-qualifying 4x400m relay team (third place, 4:15.77). Junior Kenda Keesling was Delta's other individual champion, winning the long jump (16-feet-4-inches), and the 4x800m relay team of Olivia Bohanon, Polly East, Christina Thorpe and senior Makayla Robles also placed first (10:31.
