MUNCIE, Ind. — Don Shondell, an American volleyball icon, was released from the hospital Tuesday, five days after he was found unconscious.
Steve Shondell, Don's oldest son, told The Star Press he received the news from the staff at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Steve said he was "thrilled" to get the call saying Don would be released days after he was diagnosed with pneumonia and a urinary tract infection.
Don was able to speak to nurses Friday afternoon, which Steve saw as "encouraging." Steve, while unable to visit his father amid current hospital regulations, continued to post updates on his father's health throughout the weekend via Facebook and thanked the outpouring of support.
