MUNCIE, Ind. — Dan Palombizio never expected this, and neither did his wife Cheryl.
The two are well aware of Dan’s accomplishments in Muncie. They lived the treasured memories of Ball State basketball in the middle of the 1980s, Dan on the court and Cheryl as a fan. The Cardinals don’t make their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance during the 1985-86 season without Dan, the two-time All-Mid-American Conference first team honoree and future NBA draftee who the season before set the program’s single-season record for points that still stands.

Ball State had never won more games in its history than the 21 it won during its run to the 1986 NCAA Tournament.
