ANDERSON, Ind. — Dick Hines could tell his battery was frustrated.
Every umpire’s strike zone is different. Some are wider. Some are tighter. And in Friday’s sectional championship matchup between Daleville and Wes-Del, the latter held true. Broncos starter Alaina Meeker kept trying to place her pitches on the corners, at least what she thought were the corners, and missing. Wes-Del appeared poised to capitalize sooner rather than later.
So Hines, in the middle of an at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, visited the circle and laid into his team. It didn’t matter his Broncos were up 10-5.
