LAPORTE, Ind. — For a moment, it looked like Cowan had a little seventh inning magic left in it.
The Blackhawks had runners at first and second with one out when freshman Jackson Clifford hit what ended up being a fielder’s choice to center field. James Hernandez, Washington Township’s center fielder, was playing in and tossed out Cowan sophomore Alexander King for the second out.
A groundout from junior Austin Jones ended Cowan’s comeback chance and its season. The Blackhawks’ improbable semistate run ended with a 3-0 loss to Washington Township.
“We went farther than anyone expected us to and we put Cowan baseball back on the map,” head coach Aaron Wells said.
