Colts release Jonathan Newsome

The Indianapolis Colts have released former Ball State football player Jonathan Newsome following his arrest on a marijuana possession charge last week.

Newsome, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, thanked the Colts organization via Twitter for the opportunity.

I would like to thank Coach Pagano, Ryan Grigson, Jim Irsay and the entire Colts organization for the opportunity of a life time.

Newsome spent two seasons with the Colts. He led the team in sacks with 6.5 during his rookie season, but only recorded 19 tackles and one sack this year.
