IOWA CITY, Iowa – Charlton Warren spent his first game as IU’s defensive coordinator pacing up and down the sideline, play-card dangling from his waist, standing next to his own defense as he watched Iowa return an interception for a touchdown, and then another. His defense fell into a deficit it wasn’t on the field to allow.
So in a 34-6 loss to Iowa, Warren’s job was to act like those two pick-sixes never happened. And in Warren’s IU intro, his boss — head coach Tom Allen — would be the first to admit the defense wasn’t perfect.
