Ball State men's golf finished seventh out of eight teams at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament after a 4-2 win over Xavier University in the final round.
The seventh-seeded Cardinals tied second-seeded Notre Dame in the first round 3-3, but lost on the margin-of-victory tiebreaker. Notre Dame went on to finish second in the tournament.
Ball State also lost 4-2 to sixth-seeded Dayton in the second round.
Sophomore Johnny Watts, however, won all three of his matchups during the tournament and won his first two by at least three holes.
The Cardinals' next tournament will be the Colleton River Collegiate March 7-8 in Bluffton, S.
