Ball State was picked to finish third in the MAC in a preseason vote by the league's coaches.
The Cardinals, 38-19 last year, return 71.2% of their runs and 68.7% of their hits from last year's team that placed second in the standings and tournament. Ball State went 20-5 in league play last year, just one game behind season and tourney champion Central Michigan (47-14).
