MUNCIE — Ball State expects to announce its next football coach this afternoon, according to associate athletics director for strategic communications Mike Clark. He said the department is shooting for a 3 p.m. announcement.
As early as Monday, reports speculated that Saints' quarterbacks coach Mike Neu was a leading candidate to take the job. Fox Sports' Bruce Fieldman reported Wednesday that Neu had accepted. The Star Press has been unable to confirm those reports.
Neu, who is originally from Indianapolis, spent the last two seasons as the Saints' QB coach. Before that, he held the same position for two years at Tulane.
