MUNCIE, Ind. — When Alex Kartman was working as part of an effort by Ball State University and other Mid-American Conference institutions to create an independent esports conference, he was confident something could come together.
The telecommunications lecturer, who’s a part of BSU’s College of Communication, Information, and Media, acted as his university’s liaison for the endeavor. He was a part of the meetings and more. As many attempted to figure out how it could work, he not only believed in the idea but behind him knew he had — on Ball State’s campus — an esports club that this past school year would number more than 500 competitors.
