MUNCIE — With a road game as its chance to take another step forward, Ball State stumbled.
On Tuesday, Indiana State handed Ball State its third loss in as many true road contests this season. Despite its best start through 10 games since 2001, Ball State hasn’t played well away from Worthen Arena.
“There’s some concern for us,” head coach James Whitford said after the 71-63 loss to the Sycamores. “As we’re trying to take steps forward in the program, I really thought this was a great opportunity for us.”
It was an opportunity for the Cardinals to get eight wins before Christmas, to go undefeated against in-state opponents for the first time since 1999 and an opportunity to knock off the Sycamores two years in a row — all key benchmarks for Whitford.
