MUNCIE, Ind. — On the sideline, Donan Cruz was all smiles when Ball State took an 8-1 lead in the third set.
Ball State (21-3) already held a 2-0 lead against Quincy (4-19) in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association quarterfinal. But the Cardinals were dominant in the third set. Ball State won swept the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-11) to move on to the MIVA semifinals where it will play Lewis (17-11), which rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Ohio State (13-15) 3-2 (19-25, 27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 15-10).
It was somewhat of a relief for Cruz to see how Ball State played in the final set-and-a-half.
