MUNCIE, Ind. — Everyone’s wearing masks, so Brandon Martin can’t see their faces, but he can tell they’re smiling.
It’s the morning of the Monday after the second Sunday in June. It’s been 95 days since Ball State Athletics, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, suspended all recruiting, practice and competitive activities through the end of the 2019-20 academic year. And the redshirt senior linebacker, among those football players in the first group of BSU Athletics’ phased return, is back a Scheumann Stadium for voluntary workouts with his teammates.

Sure, in the days and weeks since athletics on campus came to a halt because of the pandemic, worry crept into Martin’s mind that a season may not happen.
