MUNCIE, Ind. — The NCAA followed in the footsteps of some professional sports leagues Thursday when it announced athletes could use their uniforms to support social justice issues.
According to a NCAA release, collegiate athletes can do so with a patch on the front of their jersey that’s “intended to celebrate or memorialize people, events or other causes," or by replacing their name on the back of their jersey with “names/words intended to celebrate or memorialize people, events or other causes.”
And that means Ball State Athletics and its athletes have a decision to make.
The ruling from the NCAA’s Playing Rules Oversight Panel does not require any action from member schools.
