MUNCIE, Ind. — Nathan McClung tries not to show his excitement too much, but on Thursday, the Yorktown boys golf coach couldn't help himself.
The Tigers' penultimate group was on the 16th hole, and McClung had done some math in his head. Yorktown not only had a good chance at qualifying for state, it had a chance at winning the regional.
"But don't tell them," he told the parents walking with the players.
McClung's optimism was warranted as the Tigers, led once again by Alex Bratton, nearly won their fourth regional in program history but came up one putt short.
