SOUTH BEND, IN -- In his last start in a Ball State uniform Kyle Nicolas struck out 17 batters. Not too shabby. No surprise that the Miami Marlins then selected Nicolas with their second round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Nicolas is pitching for the Marlins A+ affiliate in Beloit, Wisconsin this season. He currently leads the High-A Central in strikeouts and ranks second in all of High-A and the Marlins organization in the category. The righty struck out nine batters Tuesday at Quad Cities in just four and two thirds innings.
Joel Godett had the chance to sit down and catch up with the former Cardinal last week while his team was in South Bend to face the Cubs.
