MUNCIE, Ind. — When Delta football was able to start practicing again Aug. 19, Eagles coach Chris Overholt felt as if he was just holding his breath, waiting for someone to tell him his team would have to quarantine again.
It wasn’t even enough just to get through the school day Friday. It was the day of what became Delta’s season opener in Week 2 of the 2020 season, a reality the Eagles faced because a player testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this month led to the cancellation of their Week 1 matchup, and Overholt’s anxiety remained. It stayed with him until the opening kickoff of Delta’s game at Eastbrook, Overholt unable to completely dispel from his mind the news of other cancellations around the state.
