After leap of faith and open tryout, IU walk-on RB Davion Ervin-Poindexter carves out role

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana celebrated its final touchdown in Saturday’s win as much if not more than any of its first seven despite its complete irrelevance to the game’s outcome.

Davion Ervin-Poindexter took the handoff up the middle then cut to his left around a pile of linemen for the 4-yard touchdown, spread his arms wide, moved the football from his right to his left hand, tapped his chest twice and pointed to the sky. He turned to find himself surrounded by teammates. He jumped into the arms of 6-6, 315-pound guard Tim Weaver, who hoisted him up like a ballerina before he came back to Earth and was swarmed by the rest of the Hoosiers’ second-team offense.
