MUNCIE, Ind. — Kyle Nicolas is off the phone and he’s there with his parents, grandparents, siblings and girlfriend, trying to hold back his smile as much as he can.
It’s day two of the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft this past Thursday, the day the Ball State pitcher expected to be selected, and during a commercial break between the 60th and 61st overall picks Nicolas’ advisor called to tell him that he was going to be picked next. That meant he’d be selected by the Miami Marlins in Competitive Balance Round B, before the start of the third round.
