MUNCIE, Ind. — Mike Wilhelm felt like becoming a coach was a natural move for him after he became a teacher instead of going to medical school and becoming a doctor.
Wilhelm’s dad coached football, track and wrestling. Wilhelm played football, basketball and baseball in high school at Southwood before playing football and baseball at Wabash College. So, Wilhelm becoming an assistant with Yorktown football ahead of the 2000 season, and then head coach ahead of the 2005 campaign, seemed like the road he was bound to take.
But before Wilhelm leads the Tigers in what will be his 16th season at the helm, he took some time to talk with The Star Press about how the sport has changed, which two teams he’s coached he’d like to see play each other and more.
