MUNCIE, Ind. — When Darrick Lee got to high school, he realized how much of an effect a coach could have on someone’s life.
Muncie Central’s head football coach, who grew up in South Bend, benefited from a diverse coaching staff at South Bend Washington. Whether it was because of their different races or occupations, Lee said he developed a well-rounded perspective on life. And he saw what it meant to devote one’s time so heavily to a community even if that coach didn’t have that strong of a connection to it before.
Lee is entering his second season leading the Bearcats, and before becoming the head coach ahead of the 2019 season he was involved in coaching basketball and football at the school.
