MUNCIE, Ind. — Beth Goetz thought, at first, she’d become a therapist.
Goetz, now Ball State’s athletic director, wasn’t planning on pursuing a career as a coach or administrator.
But as an athlete competing in soccer at Brevard College and then Clemson, she was heavily influenced by her coaches to at least test out coaching as she went to graduate school. As she studied at Missouri-St. Louis, she became an assistant women’s soccer coach and eventually the head women’s soccer coach. And later she embarked on a career as an administrator at Missouri-St. Louis (assistant athletic director, SWA), Butler (associate athletic director, SWA), Minnesota (deputy athletic director, SWA, and for a time interim athletic director), Connecticut (chief operating officer, SWA) and Ball.
