MUNCIE, Ind. — The announcement April 2 that the Indiana High School Athletic Association canceled spring sports for the current school year brought a sense of finality, however gut-wrenching the past few weeks had been, to a tumultuous period brought on by coronavirus concerns.
COVID-19 had first caused the postponement of the boys basketball state tournament March 13, a day before regionals were set to take place across the state. Six days later, with Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announcing all schools would be closed until May 1, the boys basketball tournament was canceled as the probability of spring sports taking place was thrown into further disarray.
