Holden star Jamie Whincup has begun his 2018 Supercars defence by topping the time sheets in Friday's opening practice session at the Adelaide 500.
The seven-time drivers' champion clocked a fastest lap of one minute and 20.1622 seconds in the 40-minute session.
"Good way to start the year of course," Whincup told Fox Sports.
"We're in a good place at the start of the weekend."
Ford star Mark Winterbottom was second-fastest with a 1:20.3768 while New Zealander Scott McLaughlin posted the third-quickest time of the session with a 1:20.5649.
McLaughlin had a moment earlier in the session when his DJR Team Penske Falcon clipped a tyre wall at turn four of the 3.
