BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Oriol Servia will drive the third car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the Indianapolis 500.
The team announced Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park the addition of Servia in the Marotti Racing No. 77 car.
The son of a Spanish Rally champion, Servia finished fourth in the 2011 IndyCar championship standings and was fourth in the 2012 Indy 500. This will be his eighth Indy 500, including a sixth-place finish in 2011 and three 11th-place finishes.
Servia said the 100th running of the series' biggest race "will be the most special in our era, maybe of all time, and I wanted to make sure I was in a team that can give me a program to contend for the win.
