MEXICO CITY -- Sebastian Vettel snatched a dramatic pole position from Max Verstappen in the dying moments of qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix.
A scintilating lap from Verstappen appeared to have been enough for a maiden career pole but Vettel turned in an equally impressive effort as the clock expired, edging the Red Bull driver out by less than 0.1s. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton settled for third ahead of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.
The result of the session will have to be decided in the stewards room, however, with Verstappen under investigation for impeding Bottas at the start of Q3.
