Both Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer have been given five-place grid drops for Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix after they were caught going too fast under double-waved yellow flags during qualifying.
When Antonio Giovinazzi crashed his Sauber coming out of the final corner at the end of Q1, the accident triggered double-waved yellow flags at the end of the lap. Several other drivers were trying to improve at the time, including Grosjean and Palmer who continued past the accident and over the line to finish their laps.
Although neither driver went fast enough to make the cut for Q2, both were penalised for attempting to set a "meaningful lap" after passing double-waved yellows.
