Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul says Formula One cannot afford to be "stubborn" over its post-2020 engine agreement and must be careful not to alienate new fans who may not care about switching back to noisy V8 or V10s.
This week a broad engine agreement was reached between the FIA, F1's current engine manufacturers as well as motoring companies currently not involved in the sport. All the involved parties agreed on securing cheaper, louder and more powerful engines for after 2020, which is when the current regulations are locked in place until.
Renault was one of the main advocates of switching to V6 turbos ahead of their introduction in 2014, with the fuel-efficiency formula aimed at appealing to new manufacturers while leading the push for greener technology in the motor industry.
