Lewis Hamilton beat Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to pole position for the Australian Grand Prix in a tight session which saw Mercedes and Ferrari split the front two rows of the grid.
Hamilton's eventual time was 0.2s up on Vettel, but the German managed to jump ahead of Valtteri Bottas in the other Mercedes by 0.03s, while Kimi Raikkonen rounded off the second row for Ferrari. The two front runners were way ahead of the rest, with Max Verstappen finishing fifth for Red Bull and Q3 star Romain Grosjean. Daniel Ricciardo crashed out of the top-ten shootout and will start tenth.
