If the French Grand Prix was a showcase of everything that's wrong with modern F1, the Austrian Grand Prix proved there is still plenty right with the sport. Despite having the same cars, the same drivers and the same rules, all the ingredients were there: wheel-to-wheel racing, a surprise winner and a dose of controversy.
So why did the Austrian Grand Prix develop into such a thriller and are more races like it in store?

Max Verstappen's victory was as big a surprise to Red Bull as anyone else. It was the first non-Mercedes victory of the 2019 season and seemingly came out of nowhere after he dropped from a second-place grid position to eighth behind teammate Pierre Gasly on the opening lap of the race.
