Antonio Giovinazzi hit with grid penalty at Chinese GP

Sauber has replaced the gearbox on Antonio Giovinazzi's car, resulting in a five-place grid penalty for Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix.

Giovinazzi qualified 15th on Saturday but only after he crashed coming out of the final corner and slammed into the wall on the pit straight.

The car required a rebuild overnight, including a new gearbox which means the original gearbox did not last for the six consecutive events required under the regulations.

Giovinazzi will start 18th because both Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer also received five-place penalties after qualifying and had initially qualified behind him in 16th and 17th.
