True freshman Woody Barrett might be Auburn’s quarterback of the future, but that future will most likely begin sometime after 2016, according to Tigers coach Gus Malzahn.
“He’s not in that three (Jeremy Johnson, Sean White and John Franklin III) right now to have a chance to be the starting quarterback,” Malzahn said after Auburn’s first practice of fall camp Wednesday. “Eventually, he’ll be in that conversation, but this fall, we’re trying to just get him prepared with our base offense.”
While Barrett’s exceptional physical talents and Auburn’s uncertainty at quarterback encouraged many fans on social media to believe Barrett would factor into the competition at quarterback this fall, Malzahn’s announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to realists.
