For more than 70 years the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner served as a focal point of Auburn’s camps. For roughly 40 years they were incorporated into fans’ post-game football celebrations.
In 2010, after decades of standing unmolested, a deranged Alabama fan poisoned them to death following Auburn’s victory over the Tide. New oaks were planted in 2015 and this summer the University gave fans the go-ahead to resume their tradition of “rolling” the oaks. Last night, during just the second opportunity Auburn fans have had to “roll” the trees following a win, another deranged individual set one of them on fire.
