AUBURN, Ala. — USC coach Clay Helton spent three years at Auburn as a backup quarterback before transferring to Houston, and he spent time with Pat Dye, his coach at Auburn, on the weekly “Coach Pat Dye Show.”
Helton, 45, signed with Auburn in 1990 after playing high school ball in the Houston area; he redshirted that fall, then was a backup for the Tigers in 1991 and ’92 before transferring to finish his career at Houston, where his dad, Kim, had been named coach.
“I grew up in the southeast and my dad coached at the University of Florida, University of
Miami, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and I had gone to high school in Houston,” Helton said on ESPN 106.
