Swimming as the back half of the relay, Chierighini and Mendes helped Brazil clock a 3:32.68 to set the Pan Am Games record in the final night of competition. Mendes, who swam the third leg, posted a split of 52.14 to maintain Brazil’s lead with 100 meters to go. Chierighini unloaded a 47.61 anchor split to close out the race to give Brazil the gold and the Pan Am record time.
Chierighini finishes the competition with three Pan Am medals, including two gold in the 4x100 freestyle relay and 4x100 medley relay. He also earned bronze in the men’s 100m freestyle to begin the meet on Monday.
