Chierighini swam as the anchor on the gold medal relay, guiding Brazil to a time of 3:13.66 to set a Pan Am Games record. The 17-time All-American posted a blistering 47.76 anchor split to bring home the win.
It was big night for Chierigihni, who earned his first individual medal earlier in the session by snaring the bronze medal in the men’s 100 freestyle final with a time of 48.80.
Chierighini’s former teammate Karl Krug also took home a medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay, helping Canada to a second-place finish with a time of 3:14.
