Oklahoma entered the season with a lot of hype as they had a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback in Baker Mayfield. They started the season ranked third in the country, but those expectations quickly dwindled as they were beat by Houston in week one.
They bounced back and destroyed ULM the next week – a familiar opponent with Auburn – but were humbled again the next weekend as Ohio State embarrassed them at home 45-24.
After that loss to the Buckeyes the Sooners fell all the way out of the top 25 as they started the year 1-2.
