AUBURN, Ala. – Saturday night, seemingly the entire Auburn fan base watched in confusion as Sean White left the field, replaced by Jeremy Johnson, who then was replaced shortly thereafter by John Franklin III. This rotation continued throughout the game, giving fans quarterback whiplash.
All three quarterbacks even took the field at the same time on the third play of the game – White at quarterback, and Johnson and Franklin as receivers.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn admitted at his weekly news conference Tuesday that the quarterback “strategy” would not work successfully going forward.
“Offensively … our plan was to play all three quarterbacks.
